This design for extending a small listed weavers cottage in Morningside, Edinburgh required the incorporation of a new family room and kitchen which also had the potential to resolve the entrance sequence through an imposing stone wall.
The proposal which Arca arrived at was the creation of a modified extruded form in timber – a mini version of the main house, with a chamfered face to the garden. This simple device allowed the extension better to address the garden, and to relate compositionally to the eaves line of the house.
