Blossom Street Ancoats

  • Location: Manchester
  • Programme: 2010
  • Client: Stockley Consortium
  • Contract Value: £1.6m

Lying in the World Heritage Site of Ancoats, the project for a working environment for the creative industries made reference to the mill architecture of its context. Raw board-marked concrete and brickwork were proposed for both inside and out, with repetitive window patterns on a grid that allowed for a wide range of future adaptation and uses. The volumes of the building also followed the modular pattern of mills, with separate blocks for energy generation (biomass), chimney, and centralised services spine distribution.

The two blocks have split levels connected by short staircases to enhance connections between the workspaces, and a central social space on the entrance level is included to promote interaction between creative disciplines.
