Dunsop Walk Footbridge
- Location: Manchester
- Programme: 1999 - 2001
- Client: Manchester City Council
- Contract Value: £350,000
This project arose from a series of major infrastructure improvements in the Hulme area of the city, to accommodate a new science park development in this key regeneration area.
The provision of a new link road required the re-configuration of the ramped ends of an elegant, but underused existing concrete footbridge.
Arca chose to extend the original brief of simply rearranging the ramp. The proposal centred on using the reconfiguration to create a new public space, using ‘civic’ materials such as York stone, stainless steel and setts to improve the quality of the local environment. It was intended to be an inviting ‘funnel’ to people approaching the crossing, as well as a space to pause.
