Flower Estate, Wincobank

  • Location: Sheffield
  • Programme: 2005
  • Client: Gleeson Regeneration

Wincobank has at its border an ancient wood, and an iron-age fort. The council estate has been partially cleared to allow the site to be sold for private development.

The proposal for 183 new homes exploits the sloping topography to capitalise on distant views to the large green pockets of countryside in north-east Sheffield. By using the existing road infrastructure, and adding ‘home zone’ areas to the new streets we are able to form a road structure which is both safe and intelligible.

The house types are simple formally, a combination of traditional proportions with careful detailing in brick and timber. They are required to be adaptable for ‘Lifetime’, Mobility Housing and Ecohomes standards.
