- Location: Manchester
- Programme: 2006
- Client: Argent Group
- Contract Value: £7 million
This project was prepared for a developer bid, and involved the development of an existing Grade 2 bank building with an adjacent vacant site fronting London Road. The combined development had to read as a single building whilst dealing with the need for modern office accommodation.
Taking the repetitive bay structure of the bank as a starting point, the new building uses a similar schema, including a piano nobile treatment, and matching floor and parapet levels. With its vertical emphasis, the new part attempts to create a design congruent to the existing without copying it.
Materials selected support this approach Portland stone, metalwork and lead, with an open glazed ground floor.
