Mancunian Way Footbridge
- Location: Manchester
- Programme: 1999-2002
- Client: Moss Side & Hulme Partnership
- Contract Value: £1.5m
The inner city community of Moss Side & Hulme had requested a safe direct link to the city centre throughout the years of regeneration and investment in the district. A permanent pedestrian bridge offered this, together with the opportunity to allow the amenity of the new Hulme Park to be reached by city workers.
The curvilinear landscaping of Hulme Park was extended into the new site by Arca, as the land was sculpted into organic forms that rose up to support the bridge superstructure. The dramatic 150m-long steel truss was lined with hardwood and stainless steel to filter light and views, and to offer a humane, tactile experience for the people using the crossing.
